Privacy policy

Last updated: September 27, 2026

This policy covers both getloulen.com and the Loulen mobile app.

1. Who we are

Loulen ("Loulen," "we," "us," or "our") provides a bill-tracking and reminder application and this accompanying website. This policy explains what information we collect, why, how it's used, and the choices you have. Our contact details are in Section 11.

Loulen is operated by Loula Design Company LLC, based in Lindstrom, Minnesota.

2. Information we collect

On this website

  • Email address - when you join the waitlist or otherwise sign up to be notified, via the forms on this site.
  • Contact form submissions - your name, email address, and message, when you use the Contact section.
  • Local device storage - we use your browser's local storage to remember your light/dark theme preference, and a temporary session flag so the launch-notification popup doesn't reappear every visit. Neither is used to track you across other sites.

In the Loulen app

When you create an account and use the app, we collect information necessary to provide the service, which may include:

  • Account information - name, email address, and authentication data.
  • Bill and financial-tracking data you enter - bill names, amounts, due dates, categories, payment status, and any documents or receipts you choose to attach.
  • Household information - if you invite or join a shared household, the other members can see the bill and payment data you share within that household.
  • Device and usage information - general diagnostic and crash data to help us keep the app reliable.
  • Suggestions - if you send one from the Account tab, the message you write, with the app version and device type.
  • Purchase information - if you subscribe to Loulen Premium, our payment processor (the Apple App Store, Google Play, or our subscription-management provider) handles your payment details; we receive confirmation of your subscription status, not your full card number.

We do not knowingly collect your bank account credentials or connect directly to bank accounts unless we've told you clearly, in-app, that a specific optional feature does so and you've explicitly opted in.

3. How we use your information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the app and this website.
  • To send you the emails you've asked for - launch notifications, product updates, and (if you're a subscriber) service-related messages.
  • To respond to messages you send us through the contact form.
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, or abuse.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your bill or financial data to serve you third-party advertising.

4. Who we share information with

We share information with the service providers that help us run Loulen, under agreements that limit how they can use it:

  • Klaviyo - email delivery and marketing for waitlist and product-update emails.
  • Formspree - receives contact form messages and forwards them to our inbox.
  • Supabase - our backend database and authentication provider for the app.
  • Resend - sends the app's account emails, such as sign-up confirmations and password resets.
  • Mailgun - receives bills you forward to your private Loulen address so the app can suggest them to you.
  • Google Cloud - reads the text in photos of bills you choose to scan, so the app can fill in the details for you to review.
  • Sentry - receives crash and error reports so we can fix problems.
  • Cloudflare - hosts the Loulen web app at app.getloulen.com.
  • RevenueCat, Apple, and Google - subscription and payment processing for Loulen Premium.
  • Other household members - if you join a shared household in the app, the bill data you add to that household is visible to the other members you've invited.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Loulen, our users, or the public.

5. Cookies and tracking

This website does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. It uses your browser's local storage only for the functional purposes described in Section 2 (theme preference, popup timing). We do not currently run third-party analytics on this site; if that changes, we'll update this section.

6. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the service. If you delete your Loulen account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we're required to retain it for legal, tax, or dispute-resolution purposes.

7. Your choices and rights

  • You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in any email we send.
  • You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us (Section 11), or directly within the app's account settings where that option is available.
  • Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws like the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) or, for users in the EU/UK, the GDPR - including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing.

8. Children's privacy

Loulen is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required by your local law), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

9. Data security

We use industry-standard safeguards - including encryption in transit and access controls on our backend - to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

10. International users

Loulen is based in the United States, and information we collect may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using Loulen, you consent to this transfer.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you directly.
